Arrest made after EMT reportedly threatened for treating patient in Bellingham alleyway

Bellingham police arrested a man who reportedly threatened to kill an Emergency Medical Technician who was treating a patient an the alleyway off East Holly Street.

While the EMT was treating the patient on Feb. 17, a man later identified as 28-year-old Cody Scott Padgett approached him aggressively, according to Megan Peters with the Bellingham Police Department. Padgett allegedly chased the EMT out of the alley, shouting that he was going to kill him. The incident was witnessed by another respnder in the area, according to Peters.

The EMT flagged down a passing patrol officer after exiting the alley.

Additional officers responded, and Padgett was located and arrested on suspicion of felony harassment and intimidation of a public servant. He remains in custody at Whatcom County Jail.

Responders took the patient to St. Joseph Medical Center after the incident.
