An 18-year-old Whatcom man is accused of stabbing a family member six times Thursday morning.

Authorities say the suspect, Chief Harold Saluskin Pitt, entered a residence on Matz Road in Ferndale at 3 a.m. without permission. When he was asked to leave, Saluskin Pitt stabbed a man with a 3-inch buck knife, Deb Slater with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office told The Bellingham Herald.

The victim, who police say is a relative, was able to escape and call another family member for help. He was taken to St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Bellingham, reportedly with a punctured lung.

Deputies detained Saluskin Pitt without incident, and he was booked on suspicion of first-degree assault and burglary. He remains in custody at Whatcom County Jail.
