A bomb threat was called in to the Lummi Nation School around 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, during the school’s Parent Advisory Committee meeting.

The bomb threat was received through a zoom meeting that had been hacked, according to a Facebook post from Lummi Nation Communications. The building was evacuated. Lummi Nation Police soon arrived on scene with a canine unit and went through each room in the building.

The building was later reported safe for re-entry, and school resumed as usual Thursday.

“The school was having an online meeting that was interrupted by juveniles,” Megan Peters with the Bellingham Police Department told The Bellingham Herald. “When the school attempted to get them to stop, one of them made a statement that they were going to blow up the school.”

Lummi Nation Police are currently working with the FBI on getting more information regarding the hack that took place, according to the Facebook post.

School officials said in a newsletter following the bomb threat that they would understand if some families choose to keep their children home Thursday despite the all clear.

“We want to emphasize that the Lummi Nation School has well-established protocols for handling such emergencies, and our dedicated staff, in coordination with law enforcement, acted swiftly and diligently to ensure everyone’s safety,” the newsletter states.

School officials said they are actively cooperating with the ongoing investigation and will share any updates with the community.
