One of the doodle puppies that the Whatcom Humane Society was still looking for was killed by a car earlier this week on the Guide Meridian near Smith Road.

This was likely one of the “dumped dogs” that have been found in the area over the last few weeks, Laura Clark humane society told The Bellingham Herald in an email.

A doodle puppy is a cross between a poodle and another breed.

Over 15 puppies between the ages of 5 months and 4 years were found in Whatcom County over the last three weeks. They have been taken care of at the Whatcom Humane Society, and were in a poor condition with matted fur and scars.

Recently, some of the “more social” puppies have been adopted out to families, while staff and volunteers are continuing their work with the remaining dogs, Clark said.

There are some credible leads regarding the person or people responsible for dumping the dogs, most likely by a breeder, authorities have said.
