Man arrested on arson charge for allegedly starting fire near Bellingham Public Library

A man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree arson for allegedly starting multiple fires in the 24 hours before he was arrested on Monday, June 19, according to the jail log.

The man, Grafton L. Proveau, 35, also is accused of starting a large fire in the area of 210 Central Avenue, near the central branch of the Bellingham Public Library.

Details on where Proveau lives were not provided. He is listed as an Alaska Native. He remains in custody at the Whatcom County Jail.

Bellingham Police have not responded to questions regarding the incident.
