A man in Bellingham has been arrested on suspicion of burglary after allegedly driving a Ford Explorer through the doors of a building at 6:02 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19, in the 1200 block of Granary Avenue.

Bellingham Police officers responded to a report from a security employee who reported an interior gate broken and who could hear someone in the basement of the building. Police found Chandler Ray Ireland, 29, inside, who told police he “broke and entered,” Bellingham Police Lt. Claudia Murphy told The Bellingham Herald in an email.

Ireland allegedly crashed his vehicle into the northwest doors of the building and was charged with second-degree burglary and second-degree malicious mischief. He remains in Whatcom County Jail Thursday, April 20, with bail set for $1,000 or $100 cash, according to online jail records.
