Man pleads guilty to slashing Silver Reef Casino chairs

A Ferndale man has pleaded guilty to causing more than $6,000 of damage by slashing chairs at Silver Reef Casino.

Security footage showed Antonio Silva, 55, on the casino floor vandalizing chairs at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 21 and 3:30 a.m. Feb. 11, according to charging papers filed in Whatcom County Superior Court.

Silva returned to the casino on Valentine’s Day and caused more damage with what appeared to be a razor, said Whatcom County Deputy Prosecutor Nathan Deen. Sheriff’s deputies were called and shown the footage.

Deputies confronted Silva. He said he gets very upset when he loses games and that his actions had been “stupid,” according to charging papers.

As Silva was being taken into custody, deputies found two small bags of meth in his front pocket, according to charging papers.

He pleaded guilty to second-degree malicious mischief Wednesday, July 1. Two counts of drug possession were dropped.

Superior Court Judge Charles Snyder ordered Silva to serve 30 days in Whatcom County Jail. Silva also will have to pay $2,250 in restitution.
