Whatcom man reportedly uses his truck to assault a neighbor
A Whatcom County man is suspected of hitting a neighbor with his girlfriend’s truck twice before trying to use it to push the neighbor into some roadside bushes.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office booked Justin Lee McCann, 39, into Whatcom County Jail Saturday, Feb. 26, on an outstanding warrant for second-degree assault. Jail records show McCann is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail.
Deputies responded Aug. 9, 2021, to McCann’s father’s home after the father called to report McCann had assaulted his girlfriend, Whatcom County Superior Court documents state.
A female neighbor saw McCann punching and kicking his girlfriend while she was on the ground and reported it to the father, who confronted McCann, according to court documents. McCann reportedly argued with his father, pushed him several times and then got in his girlfriend’s truck and drove down the gravel driveway at a high rate of speed, nearly hitting several items on the way.
Deputies arrived and spoke to the father, documents state, at it was then that McCann returned and drove back up the driveway at high speed and slid to a stop several feet away from deputies, documents state.
McCann then raced back down the driveway, documents state.
As the truck was about to leave the property, a male neighbor came out and started yelling at McCann near the end of the driveway, documents state. Deputies reported seeing the truck slow down and the neighbor disappear, as if he had been hit.
Deputies found the neighbor lying on the ground and complaining of pain, documents state.
He reported that he was standing on the side of the driveway, when McCann stopped, backed up and hit the neighbor in the leg, documents state. The neighbor reported that the truck then lunged forward, knocking him onto the hood, before McCann reportedly tried to use the truck to push the neighbor into some bushes close to the road.
McCann then drove away, documents state.
