Bellingham man allegedly chased, then rammed another car during road-rage incident Tuesday

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Bellingham man suspected of slamming into another car with a 7-year-old passenger inside during a road-rage incident Tuesday afternoon.

Bailey Rae McCorkhill, 25, was booked into Whatcom County Jail Feb. 8 on suspicion of two counts of first-degree assault and felony harassment.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to the report of a road-rage incident in progress in the 800 block of West Smith Road, sheriff’s office spokesperson Deb Slater told The Bellingham Herald in an email.

The victim was traveling westbound on Smith with her 7-year-old son as a passenger when McCorkhill began aggressively chasing them in his car, Slater reported. McCorkhill reported drove up to the side of the victim’s car, made threatening comments, swerved at the victim’s car and at one point made contact with it.

The victim attempted to get away from McCorkhill by abruptly stopping her car at one point, according to Slater, but McCorkhill turned his car around, stopped next to the victim’s car and yelled that he was going to kill her.

The victim attempted to get away, but McCorkhill followed, passing cars and driving on the shoulder of the road to get behind the victim’s car, Slater reported.

McCorkhill then rammed the back of the victim’s vehicle, knocking the bumper off, according to Slater.

With the help of deputies stopping McCorkhill, the victim was able to speed away, Slater reported, and McCorkhill was taken into custody.

McCorkhill was known to the victim, Slater reported.
