Bellingham police seek 3 suspects in drive-by shooting following interrupted car break-in
Bellingham Police are trying to identify three suspects in a reported drive-by shooting following an interrupted car break-in Friday afternoon in the Cornwall Park neighborhood.
In addition to the drive-by shooting, which caused property damage to another victim’s car, the suspects are believed to have stolen two ammo boxes with several hundred rounds of varying sizes, Lt. Claudia Murphy told The Bellingham Herald in an email Monday evening.
Officers were called at approximately 2:36 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, to the 800 block of Baker Street for the report of shots fired, Murphy reported.
According to Murphy’s email, the investigation revealed that:
▪ The victim saw two men breaking into his car after the car alarm went off. A window of the car had been broken out and the two suspects had taken the two ammo boxes from the victim’s car.
▪ The two suspects got into a teal passenger vehicle, and as it reached the mailboxes in front of the victim’s house, one of the suspects inside the car pointed a handgun at the victim and fired.
▪ The bullet stuck a second victim’s car in the front passenger window and went to the lower driver’s side windshield. The first victim had been standing by the passenger side of the car struck by the bullet at the time.
“The suspect descriptions are vague as all three were wearing facial coverings, had hats and baggy pants on,” Murphy wrote. “The suspect vehicle fled the area and was not located.”
