Bellingham man suspected of firing gun and possibly hitting neighbors’ occupied house
During an argument with his parents, a Bellingham man is suspected of firing at least three rounds from his gun, some of which may have hit the tin roof on a neighbors’ house while they were inside.
The Bellingham Police Department booked Karampal Singh Dulay, 22, into Whatcom County Jail Wednesday, Jan. 19, on suspicion of discharging a firearm within city limits, two counts of felony harassment, two counts of fourth-degree assault and two counts of reckless endangerment. Jail records show Dulay is being held in lieu of $4,000 bail.
Officers were called at 8:38 p.m. Wednesday to the 2900 block of Pacific Street after Dulay’s parents called to report that their son was being disruptive to the point that they had to lock themselves in the bathroom, Lt. Claudia Murphy told The Bellingham Herald in an email Thursday, Jan. 20.
As officers were responding to the scene, they received reports that Dulay had fired three rounds from his gun, Murphy reported.
Officers arrived and got his parents to safety, and Dulay came out of the house, unarmed, according to Murphy, and he was placed under arrest.
Murphy reported that the investigation showed that:
▪ Dulay got upset during an argument with his parents and his behavior started to escalate.
▪ Dulay pushed both his parents before he went to his bedroom and grabbed his handgun and walked to the front door.
▪ Dulay told his parents he was going to kill them, walked outside the front door and fired at least three rounds from his gun. The incident occurred in a residential area of Bellingham, and Dulay pointed the gun in the direction of several homes across the street.
▪ Several neighbors reported hearing the gunshots, and one reported hearing “ting” noises on the roof of their house, as if a metal object had landed on their tin roof. Two people were inside at the time.
After receiving a search warrant, officers retrieved a M&P Shield 9mm handgun with several bullets in the magazine belonging to Dulay in his room, according to Murphy.
