Everson man suspected of murder after reportedly shooting mother’s ex-husband
A 20-year-old Everson man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after he allegedly shot his mother’s ex-husband late Thursday, the Everson Police Department reported.
Ethan M. Knight was booked into Whatcom County Jail at 2:57 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, on suspicion of second-degree murder, according to the jail’s log.
Officers were called Jan. 6 to the 600 block of Pioneer Court in Everson for the report of an assault with a weapon, according to an email to The Bellingham Herald from Everson Police Chief Dan MacPhee.
The person who had called 911 reported that her ex-husband had been shot by her son, MacPhee wrote, and that it appeared her ex-husband was dead.
Officers, deputies from the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office and emergency medical personnel responded and found the man was dead inside the home, MacPhee’s email read.
Knight was arrested and booked into Whatcom County Jail, MacPhee.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office will be the primary investigating agency of the suspected murder, according to MacPhee, and no other details will be released at this time. The name of the victim was not included in the email.
According to unconfirmed emergency radio broadcasts at the time, the ex-husband had pulled a gun on Knight’s mother before Knight shot him.
According to Washington Association of Sheriff’s and Police Chiefs records, there has not been a murder reported in Everson since 2002.
