Unidentified man suspected of crime wave outside Bellingham Fred Meyer Sunday morning
Bellingham Police arrested a man they haven’t been able to identify who is suspected of going on a crime wave impacting a number of vehicles outside the Lakeway Fred Meyer, including a Greyhound bus, Sunday morning.
The unnamed man was booked into Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of second- and third-degree malicious mischief, second-degree vehicle prowl and disorderly conduct, according to jail records, which also show he is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail. As of Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 9, jail records show his name still was not known.
Officers were called at 10 a.m. Nov. 7 to the 800 block of Lakeway Drive after receiving numerous 911 calls about the man, referred to as “John Doe” in Whatcom County Superior Court documents, being disorderly, breaking beer bottles, obstructing traffic, attempting to get into occupied cars and intentionally damaging other cars.
The man “emitted an extremely strong odor of intoxicants,” according to court documents, and identified himself to police only as “Sergeant Sergeant.”
