Man reportedly walks out of Bellingham retailer carrying $10,000 in stolen jewelry

Bellingham police are searching for a man who stole jewelry worth approximately $10,000 from a Bellis Fair Mall retailer last week.

Officers were called at 5:49 p.m. Oct. 22 to Kohl’s and learned that employees noted a man enter the store and walk directly to the jewelry area, Lt. Claudia Murphy told The Bellingham Herald in an email Thursday, Oct. 28.

Once in the jewelry area, the man used a tool to cut a cable on a jewelry display, Murphy reported, and he then walked out of the store carrying the entire rack of jewelry.

A check of the store’s inventory shows the stolen jewelry was worth approximately $10,000, according to Murphy.

Officers are working to see if surveillance cameras in the store and area can provide video to identify a suspect in the theft, Murphy reported.
