Bellingham police investigating stabbing of man downtown
The Bellingham Police Department is working to determine a suspect after a 69-year-old man was stabbed in downtown earlier this month.
Officers responded at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 8 to the downtown Whatcom Transportation Authority bus station after the man called 911 to report that he had been stabbed, Lt. Claudia Murphy told The Bellingham Herald in an email Saturday, Oct. 16.
Officers found the man, who reported being stabbed near the Cornwall Avenue Rite Aid and had gone to the bus station seeking help, Murphy reported. He had a single stab wound to his torso, but was conscious when police located him.
Officers performed first aid until Bellingham Fire Department medics arrived and took the man to St. Joseph hospital, where he had surgery for his injuries, Murphy reported, who added that she did not have an update on the man’s condition.
“Officers and Detectives are investigating to determine a suspect at this time,” Murphy wrote.
