Driver arrested after collision near Bellingham late Friday leaves another driver injured

A 19-year-old Bellingham woman was charged with vehicular assault after a head-on collision late Friday night, Oct. 15, near Marietta injured another woman.

Lea Serena-Gole was booked into Whatcom County Jail early Saturday, Oct. 16, by the Washington State Patrol.

According to the state patrol report, Serena-Gole was driving at Toyota RAV4 southbound on Bancroft Road near Country Lane at 11:24 p.m. when she failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the center line and struck a Jeep Wrangler driven by a 26-year-old Bellingham woman.

The injured woman was taken to St. Joseph hospital where she was in satisfactory condition Saturday morning, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

The road was closed for the investigation but reopened about 3 a.m.

Both vehicles were totaled in the wreck, according to the state patrol.
