‘Stealing from the animals = Shame,’ Whatcom Humane Society says of reported package theft

Stealing from people is bad enough.

“Stealing from the animals = Shame!” The Whatcom Humane Society said in a Facebook post Thursday, Oct. 7.

The Humane Society asked for help in locating a group of three people who stole several boxes and envelopes left outside the Division Street shelter at approximately 3:15 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1.

“The packages contained supplies for our shelter animals,” read the post, which included a link to video from a security camera outside the shelter. “Our security cameras can’t quite make out license plates (camera angles have now been repositioned) so if any of our social media friends can help identify these criminals, we would love your help.”

The packages contained basic supplies, such as food, treats, toys and supplies for the organization’s foster care program, Executive Director Laura Clark told The Bellingham Herald in an email.

“They have since been replaced,” Clark wrote about the stolen items. “It’s just a sad situation and what worries us is that these people may be targeting other businesses in the neighborhood as well as WHS.”

The Human Society asked anyone to call 360-733-2080, extension 0, with any information.

The Herald has reached out to the Bellingham Police Department asking for more information about the reported theft.
