A woman shot a 75-year-old man in the chest with a handgun Wednesday morning, June 24, near Everson, according to the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim, Edward Davidson, had at least one wound to his upper chest area and was transported to St. Joseph hospital, where he remained in satisfactory condition Wednesday evening.
Esmeralda Martin, 23, was booked into Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder in the first degree.
The victim called 911 around 10 a.m. to report that a 23-year-old woman had fired a handgun multiple times at him, and a bullet hit him in the shoulder or chest area, according to the sheriff’s office. Martin fled the scene before law enforcement arrived, and deputies searched the county for a silver Volvo sedan. Around 11:45 a.m., a deputy spotted the car on Drayton Street in Lynden and took Martin into custody, according to the sheriff’s office. She was booked into jail several hours later.
Deputies believe the victim and the woman knew each other, Whatcom County Undersheriff Jeff Parks said.
“It doesn’t appear it was random,” Parks said.
More details regarding circumstances of the shooting were not available Wednesday evening.
