Before deputies can ask, Whatcom man allegedly offers to return $12,000 in stolen items

Without even being prompted, a Whatcom County man reportedly asked sheriff’s deputies if they wanted the approximately $12,000 in battery chargers he allegedly stole when they showed up to question him about the theft.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office booked Andrew Allen Fisher, 30, into Whatcom County Jail Tuesday, Sept. 22, on suspicion of first-degree theft, first-degree possession of stolen property and second-degree criminal trespassing, and jail records show he is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Deputies responded Monday, Sept. 21, to the 1400 block of East Badger Road in Lynden for a theft complaint, sheriff’s office spokesperson Deb Slater told The Bellingham Herald.

The victim told deputies than at around midnight Sept. 18, someone had entered the back lot of the property and stole four industrial battery chargers, each valued at $3,000, Slater reported. Video surveillance showed a man, later identified as Fisher, placing the chargers in the back of an older blue Chevy pickup.

On Tuesday, deputies went to speak to Fisher at his home, according to Slater, and, without being prompted, Fisher asked if they wanted the chargers back. All four chargers were reportedly found in his possession.

According to Whatcom County Superior Court records, Fisher is awaiting a Nov. 23 jury trial on charges of burglary, theft and malicious mischief stemming from an alleged theft attempt at a construction site in June 2019.
