Bellingham Shell station employee reportedly slammed on pavement by shoplift suspect

A female employee at the Shell convenience station on King Street in Bellingham was injured after a shoplift suspect picked her up and slammed her on the pavement Thursday morning.

Bellingham police booked Mick Lehn Satushek into Whatcom County Jail Sept. 3 on suspicion of second-degree robbery, and jail records show he is being held in lieu of $1,500 bail.

Officers were called to the Shell station at 7:09 a.m. for a report of the robbery, Lt. Claudia Murphy told The Bellingham Herald. Witnesses reported that the employee followed Satushek outside after he’d reportedly taken items and left without paying.

Satushek then picked the employee up and slammed her on the pavement, causing injury to her elbow, hand and foot, Murphy reported, and Satushek ran away with the stolen items.

Officers found Satushek about five blocks away, and witnesses positively identified him as the man who had stolen the items and then assaulted the employee, according to Murphy. Satushek reportedly tensed up and argued with officers while they placed him under arrest.

Paramedics were called to treat the employee’s injuries, Murphy reported.
