One arrested, one hospitalized after two-car crash in Whatcom County Friday night
A Custer man was arrested Saturday morning after a two car crash on Birch Bay Lynden Road Friday night left a Blaine man in the hospital, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Brian Allen Johnson, 47, was driving eastbound on Birch Bay Lynden Road near Holiday Drive around 11:17 p.m. Friday night while a 25-year-old man driving a 2009 Isuzu NPR was driving westbound on the same road, according to the release. As the Isuzu made a left-hand turn onto Holiday Drive, it was struck by Johnson’s 2003 Chevrolet Malibu. Both cars were totaled.
The 25-year-old Blaine man was injured and taken to a local hospital. His condition was unavailable. After it was determined that drugs and alcohol were a factor in the crash, the state patrol said, Johnson was arrested and charged with vehicular assault.
He is currently being held at the Whatcom County Jail without bail.
