A late night party led to assault with broken bottle, eventual arrest
A fight involving 10 to 15 people at a late-night party sent one person to the hospital and another to jail.
The Bellingham Police Department booked Joshua Perry into Whatcom County Jail Wednesday, Aug. 5, on suspicion of second-degree assault. Jail records show he was released later Wednesday on $500 bail.
Officers responded at 2:05 a.m. July 2 to a report of a fight in the 800 block of North Garden Street, Lt. Claudia Murphy reported in an email to The Bellingham Herald.
Responding officers found 10 to 15 people involved in a fight at a residential party, Murphy reported. Witnesses told police a group of men including Perry had been causing problems at the party, prompting one person to ask them to leave. The group then allegedly assaulted the person and a friend that came to their aid.
Perry then broke a bottle on the friend’s forehead, causing them to fall over, according to Murphy. The group then kicked and punched the friend as they lay on the ground, causing significant injuries that required hospitalization and stitches, Murphy reported.
Police arrested Perry as he sat in a car at 1:29 a.m. Wednesday at Boulevard Park without incident, according to Murphy.
