Two Whatcom County traffic stops lead to seizures of meth, heroin and a loaded gun
A pair of traffic stops last week led to the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office seizing approximately 30 grams of heroin, 70 grams of methamphetamine and a loaded gun and arresting two men suspected of attempting to deliver the drugs.
James Louis Pray, 49 of Deming, was booked Friday, July 31, into Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of charges including possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, and jail records show he was released on $10,000 bail.
Shawn Eric Linn Silvo, 37 of Ferndale, was booked Saturday, Aug. 1., into Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of charges including possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and unlawful possession of a firearm, and jail records show he was released on $30,000 bail.
At approximately 2:30 a.m. Friday, a deputy stopped a vehicle driven by Gray near the intersection of Grandview Road and Enterprise Road after noticing an expired vehicle registration and an altered trip permit in the rear window, sheriff’s office spokesperson Deb Slater told The Bellingham Herald in an email.
Pray was arrested for driving with a suspended license, Slater reported, and during a search, the deputy located 2.1 grams of suspected heroin in his cargo shorts pocket, $587 cash and fake $100 and $20 bills.
Pray consented to a search of the car, Slater wrote, and the deputy located a scale with heroin residue and other drug paraphernalia. Under the car, the deputy found four bags containing 21.2 grams of suspected heroin, 6.2 grams of suspected heroin, 28.6 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 2.1 grams of suspected methamphetamine.
Twenty-four hours later, deputies stopped a vehicle driven by Silvo in the 3100 block of Brown Road for multiple traffic violations, Slater reported.
Deputies had been informed that Silvo had recently been reported driving with several firearms, Slater said, and a narcotics K9 alerted to the vehicle, and it was seized. A search reportedly revealed a loaded .38 special revolver and 39.9 grams of suspected methamphetamine.
According to the addictioncenter.com, the drugs that were seized could be worth up to a combined $10,000.
