Bellingham police investigating Happy Valley shooting that left man hospitalized

Bellingham police are investigating a shooting that that occurred early Monday morning in the Happy Valley neighborhood.

Police responded at 1:52 a.m. July 27 to the 900 block of 22nd Street when a victim reported that he had been shot in the leg, according to the department’s incident log.

Officers applied a tourniquet to the victim’s leg to stop “the profuse bleeding,” according to a tweet by the department.

The victim was in his 30s, according to information provided to The Bellingham Herald in an email by Lt. Claudia Murphy, who said the victim was transported to the emergency department at St. Joseph’s hospital for urgent treatment.

The case remains under investigation, Murphy reported, adding, “Not much is known at this point for this case. ... (The) officer processed the scene and further investigation is required.”
