Custer man arrested on suspicion of raping 9-year-old child he knew

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office suspects a Custer man repeatedly sexually assaulted a 9-year-old that he knew last year.

Andres Garcia-Gutierrez, 33, was booked into Whatcom County Jail Thursday, July 22, on suspicion of two counts of first-degree child rape.

Deputies were notified on May 27 of the report of the sexual assault of the 9-year-old, sheriff’s office spokesperson Deb Slater said.

Investigation revealed the assaults happened repeatedly nine month earlier by Garcia-Gutierrez, Slater said.
