Bellingham police arrest trio in alleged Silver Beach bike and mail thefts
Two men and one woman are suspected of stealing two electric bikes worth approximately $6,000 and a large amount of mail from a number of houses the Silver Beach neighborhood on Sunday morning.
Bellingham police booked Randi Reppart, 24, Carlos Eric Dean Kassel, 29, and Isaiah Jonathon Mayshack, 29, into Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of first-degree theft and residential burglary. Jail records show Reppart was released Monday on her personal recognizance, Kassel was released Monday on $1,000 bail and Mayshack is being held in lieu of $5,100 bail.
Officers responded at approximately 6:50 a.m. July 19 to the 2600 block of Darkin Street for a report of a theft and a witnessed burglary, according to information provided to The Bellingham Herald in an email from Lt. Claudia Murphy.
A witness reported seeing a dark, older model Ford Mustang pull up to a neighbor’s house and two men get out of the car, enter the garage of the house and leave with two electric bikes, which they rode south on Darkin Street. The female driver of the Mustang followed the men on the stolen bikes, Murphy reported.
Police found the Mustang backing into a parking lot two blocks from where the burglary had occurred. Officers spoke to Reppart, who Murphy said lied about her identity and why she was in the area.
Officers also noted a large amount of mail from various addresses in the neighborhood, an electric scooter and multiple tools, Murphy said.
While they were investigating, Murphy said officers received a 911 call that two men were seen taking two electric bikes into a house in the 2500 block of Texas Street.
They responded to that address, where Mayshack and Kassell eventually brought out the bikes and admitted to their part in the theft on Darkin Street, Murphy reported.
The Mustang was seized while officers awaited a search warrant, according to Murphy.
