Bellingham man convicted of child rape suspected in another sexual assault of a child
A Bellingham man previously convicted of child rape is suspected of sexually assaulting a child he is familiar with over a period of five years in the 1990s.
Bellingham police booked Wayne David Anderson, 64, into Whatcom County Jail Friday, July 17, on suspicion of charges including first-degree child rape and first-degree child molestation. Jail records show he was released later that day on $80,000 bail.
On June 26, the victim reported being sexually assaulted by Anderson between 1993 and 1998, when the victim was younger than 12 years old.
On Friday, Anderson came into the Bellingham Police Department, turned himself in and was booked into jail.
Whatcom County Superior Court records show that in 1998 Anderson was convicted on two counts of second-degree child rape — one for an incident in 1996 and another in 1997. He was sentenced to more than 11 years in prison, but that was reduced to six months confinement, probation and treatment in an outpatient sex offender program, which court records show he completed.
