Bellingham man allegedly causes thousands in damage by breaking windows around town

A 20-year-old Bellingham man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly broke windows at the downtown Bellingham bus station, a church and a business, causing more than $6,500 worth of damage over a two-day period.

Mallik Jordan Goins was arrested June 23 on suspicion of two counts of second-degree malicious mischief and one count of third-degree malicious mischief, according to Bellingham Police Lt. Claudia Murphy.

Around 5:20 a.m. on Monday, June 22, Bellingham police were called to the Whatcom Transportation Authority Bellingham Station downtown in the 200 block of east Magnolia Street. Police officers noticed the windows and glass door of the Bellingham police satellite office were broken, Murphy said.

Surveillance footage captured someone, who was later identified as Goins, throwing rocks through the windows and breaking them. Damage is estimated to be around $2,000, Murphy said.

Around 11:15 p.m. that evening, Goins allegedly broke the window at a business in the 2400 block of Alabama Street, Murphy said. Goins went into the store, attempted to steal beer and was caught and confronted, Murphy said. Goins walked away, but then allegedly came back and threw a rock at a store window, she said. Damage was estimated to be less than $750, she said.

The following day, on June 23, shortly before 10 a.m., Goins was arrested after he allegedly broke the windows out of a Bellingham church in the 2500 block of E Street, Murphy said. Goins became upset after he wasn’t allowed to enter a section of the church reserved for youth, Murphy said. Goins then allegedly broke nine windows, causing roughly $4,500 in damage, she said.

Goins allegedly admitted he broke the windows at the Bellingham bus station, Murphy said.
