Two Whatcom men suspected of luring men to their home, then drugging and raping them
Two Maple Falls men are suspected of luring men in their late teens and 20s to their house under the premise of using methamphetamine and heroin, drugging them and then sexually assaulting them.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, June 2, booked Kevin Wayne Milam, 50, into Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of two counts of second-degree rape and one of possession of a controlled substance. Whatcom County Superior Court records show Milam pleaded guilty to first-degree statutory rape for a 1989 incident, and was found guilty of failing to register as a sex offender in 1995 in Snohomish County.
A second, unidentified, 57-year-old suspect had a medical emergency while deputies were speaking to him and will likely be arrested once his medical issues are resolved, Chief Deputy Kevin Hester told The Bellingham Herald in an email.
On May 28, Sheriff’s Office Foothills Neighborhood deputies were informed that Milam and the second suspect had been luring men — none of which were juveniles — to their home in the 8000 block of Golden Valley Boulevard, drugging them and sexually assaulting them, according to Hester. The alleged assaults occurred over the past several years, and it was believed there was a video of the sexual assaults circulating in the community.
While investigating, deputies found that at least five or six credible victims went to Milam’s and the other suspect’s home, would eat or drink something and then pass out, Hester wrote. When they woke, they reportedly found strong evidence of being sexually assaulted.
On Tuesday, deputies obtained a search warrant for the home, where they found the second suspect and detained him. During the search of the home, deputies found evidence corroborating the crime and some methamphetamine, Hester reported.
While deputies were there, the second suspect suffered the medical emergency and was taken to the hospital.
Milam was not home at the time, but deputies later learned that he had returned to the home, Hester reported, and after getting a second warrant, they arrested him.
