Whatcom burglary suspect jumps from the second story. Deputies still get their man

A Whatcom County man suspected in a string of burglaries and thefts over the past two months attempted to evade capture by jumping out of the second-story window of a shop but was eventually arrested Tuesday afternoon.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office on May 26 booked Andrew Allen Fisher, 30, into Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of a dozen charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful firearms, burglary, theft, theft of a motor vehicle, theft of a firearm, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest. Jail records show he is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Deputies established probable cause against Fisher for a May 16 burglary at the Peace Arch Secure Storage on Birch Bay Lynden Road, according to information provided to The Bellingham Herald in an email from Chief Deputy Kevin Hester.

In that incident, Fisher is suspected to have cut the storage facility’s chain link fence in an attempt to steal items at about 3:25 a.m., but was interrupted by a security system alarm and later identified from surveillance video, according to Whatcom County Superior Court documents.

Deputies attempted to arrest Fisher at his home in the 3500 block of Birch Bay Lynden Drive at 12:04 p.m. Tuesday, Hester reported. Though he was advised he was under arrest, Fisher allegedly tried to run away, but ran back inside a pole barn or shop after seeing a deputy.

The homeowner allowed deputies to enter the shop, but Fisher jumped out a second-story window and ran away, Hester reported. He was located by deputies and a K-9 unit about 1:50 p.m. His pants, wallet and phone were located near the window he had jumped out, along with his identification.

While deputies were clearing the shop area and looking for a second suspect, they found a 13-inch barreled pump shotgun, which they seized, along with Fisher’s identification, Hester wrote. The gun was confirmed as having been stolen in Whatcom County, and as a convicted felon, Fisher was not allowed to possess it.

Other suspected stolen items were found in the shop area and an apartment Fisher was staying in, including three downriggers, a generator, pressure washer, weed eater and numerous other tools, including a blue palm sander with a name on it that had previously had been reported stolen, Hester reported. The estimated value of the recovered stolen items was $8,000.

Fisher also is suspected in a May 24 theft of a $30,00 Spyder trike (motorcycle) and a minimum $10,000 in boat motors and fishing gear, Hester said. He was also captured on surveillance video in that incident and identified by deputies and his mother.
