Troopers seek scammer who pressures drivers to swap cash for fake gold jewelry

The Washington State Patrol is seeking help to find a known criminal who has been a part of a nationwide scam pressuring people to exchange money for fake gold jewelry.

Over the last several weeks, troopers have been working in both Snohomish and Skagit counties to track down the criminal, according to a press release from the state patrol Thursday afternoon, May 14.

There have been several 9-1-1 calls recently about people being stopped on freeway interchange ramps or followed into parking lots and being pressured into exchanging cash for what turns out to be fake gold, the release said.

The state patrol has been working with victims to track down the criminal but needs additional assistance. Anyone who has more information or footage of the incidents is encouraged to come forward to assist with the investigation.

For those with more information, the WSP urges you to contact Trooper Heather Axtman via email at heather.axtman@wsp.wa.gov or by phone at 425-583-9978.
