DUI suspected in crash Friday near Lynden that injures two Whatcom teens
Drugs or alcohol are suspected in a single-car crash early Friday, April 17, southeast of Lynden that sent two Whatcom County teenagers to the hospital with injuries.
Yashleen L. Singh, 19, of Lynden and Chase L. Abshere, 19, of Blaine were both taken to St. Joseph hospital in Bellingham for treatment of their injuries, according to the Washington State Patrol report on the crash.
Singh was driving a black 2005 Audi A4 eastbound on Abbott Road near Thiel Road at 2:43 a.m. when it left the roadway, according to the report. The car then struck a pole and continued before hitting a parked John Deer 8400 tractor.
Singh’s injuries had her listed in critical condition, Trooper Heather Axtman told The Bellingham Herald, while Abshere was in serious condition.
Singh and Abshere were both wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, according to the report, but drugs or alcohol were suspected to be involved. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with charges pending.
