Whatcom County man shot in chest and cut on leg during argument with man he knew
A Maple Falls man was treated at the hospital Friday afternoon after he was shot in the chest with a high-powered pellet gun and a suffered a knife wound to the leg during an argument with a Snohomish County man he knew.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office booked Lane Christian Twigg, 19, into Whatcom County Jail March 27 on suspicion of first-degree assault, and jail records show he is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Deputies were called to the victim’s Maple Falls home at 3:56 p.m. for the report of a physical domestic dispute, according to Whatcom County Superior Court documents, and were told the victim had gone to the Starving Sams convenience store on Kendall Road with a gunshot wound.
The victim told deputies he had gotten in an argument with Twigg, who had shot him in the chest with a small caliber rife and fought him, trying to stab the victim with a knife, documents state.
Deputies saw a bleeding wound to the victim’s chest, which he was covering with a towel, and a large cut across his right shin, according to documents.
A witness at the home told deputies she saw Twigg pick up a pellet rifle and heard it fire, documents state, and she heard the victim yelling that he had been shot and was bleeding.
The victim was taken to St. Joseph’s hospital in Bellingham with non-life-threatening wounds, Chief Deputy Kevin Hester told The Bellingham Herald in an email, and was released later that day.
Twigg is scheduled to be arraigned May 15 in Whatcom County Superior Court.
