Police suspect man in home invasion-style break-in at Bellingham mobile home park

Bellingham police arrested a man armed with a knife they suspect of a home invasion-style break-in and trying to kick in the door of a second residence Sunday afternoon at Lakeway Mobile Estates.

Whatcom County Jail records show Brian Charles Goldman, 30, is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail on suspicion of charges including first-degree assault, first-degree burglary and first-degree robbery.

Police were called to the 1200 block of Lincoln Street at 3:36 p.m. March 22 and arrested Goldman as he lay on the ground in a car port, according to information provided to The Bellingham Herald in an email from Lt. Claudia Murphy.

During the investigation, Murphy reported officers found:

Goldman knocked on the door of a trailer where a man and woman lived. They answered, but did not know Goldman, who pushed his way past the man took the arm of the woman.

Fearing for the safety of the woman, the man attempted to push Goldman out of the home, resulting in a struggle.

As the two fought, Goldman attempted to take an iPad belonging to the man, but the man was able to get it back.

Goldman pushed the man to the ground, breaking a vase that cut the man’s leg and caused significant bleeding.

Goldman pulled a knife out of a sheath on his hip, and the struggle resumed, but the man was able to wrestle the knife away from Goldman before he ran to a neighbor’s house seeking help.

The neighbor came outside, where he encountered Goldman, who had chased after the man. Goldman punched the neighbor in the head several times. The neighbor pushed Goldman away, and he and the woman got inside the neighbor’s house and locked the door.

Goldman kicked at the neighbor’s door several times, causing an estimated $100 worth of damage.

After police arrested Goldman, the man’s wallet was found in a bag Goldman had left at the first house, Murphy reported, and officers located a flxed-blade knife on the pavement near the porch of the first house.

Whatcom County Superior Court records show Goldman has previous felony convictions for criminal impersonation, harassment, theft of a motor vehicle, robbery, malicious mischief, possession of a controlled substance, rental theft and theft in Whatcom, Skagit and Snohomish counties since 2013.
