A Deming man is suspected of sexually molesting and raping a then 10-year-old girl he is familiar with three times in one day nearly three years ago.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office booked Lorenzo V. Almojera, 58, into Whatcom County Jail Tuesday, March 3, on suspicion of of first-degree child rape and first-degree child molestation. Jail records show Almojera was released Thursday on $5,000 bail.

The victim was interviewed about the alleged sexual assaults at Brigid Collins Child Advocacy Center in late January, according to Whatcom County Superior Court documents.

During the forensic interview, she said that she visited Almojera at his home in Deming sometime between August 2016 and August 2017, and that on three separate occasions Almojera touched her in a sexual manner, court documents state.

On one of the occasions, a witness walked in and saw Almojera with the victim under a blanket on the couch and yelled at him, court documents stated.

The victim also reported that on several other occasions Almojera would touch her inappropriately when the two were in close proximity and that she caught him looking into a room she was sleeping in through an open door, court documents state.

Almojera is scheduled to be arraigned in Whatcom County Superior Court March 13.
