Bellingham police arrest man suspected of abusing and injuring child he knew

Bellingham police last week arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly abusing child he knew near Squalicum High School.

Jamie Arthur Kennedy was booked into Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of third-degree assault of a child on Thursday, Feb. 27, and jail records show he’s being held in lieu of $18,000 bail.

Officers responded to the 4000 block of McGrath Road for the report of a child with visible injuries, according to information provided by Lt. Claudia Murphy in an email to The Bellingham Herald.

Police investigation found that Kennedy had caused bodily harm and substantial pain to the child, who was younger than 10 years old, Murphy reported.

The child was given first aid for the injury, but did not need to be taken to the hospital, and is now in a safe environment, Murphy reported.
