Man hospitalized after he’s reportedly shot by 2 masked men while in Lynden park
Lynden police are investigating after a man was hospitalized with a gunshot wound suffered Wednesday night while he was being chased by two masked men who attempted to steal items from a car in Lynden City Park.
The shooting victim is 31 years old and believed to be from Skagit County, Lynden Police Chief Steve Taylor told The Bellingham Herald in an email.
At 10:39 p.m. Feb. 5, officers responded to a report of the shooting, according to a release from the Lynden Police Department.
Police spoke to two individuals, who reported they had gone to the park with another man to meet a friend. Shortly after their arrival, they were approached by two masked men, the release said, and one of the masked men had a gun.
The victims reported the masked men began stealing items from their vehicle, the release stated, and the victims then ran away to escape.
Both victims reported hearing a gunshot as they ran, and then heard their friend yell for help, to come back and get him, according to the release. Once they returned to their vehicle, they realized the man had been shot.
The victims reported driving their friend out of the park and calling 911, before they spotted the Lynden Fire station and pulled in for assistance.
Lynden firefighters summoned police, and the shooting victim was taken by ambulance to St. Joesph’s hospital with a gunshot wound to his right bicep area, according to the release. He was later transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office and Washington State Patrol also assisted, and the investigation is ongoing the release said.
