Whatcom traffic stop reportedly leads to the discovery of a quarter-pound of heroin

Two Ferndale residents were arrested early Monday after law enforcement reportedly found a quarter-pound of heroin in the car they were in along with a loaded rifle and small amounts of methamphetamine and cocaine.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office booked Fidel Mar Gonzalez Sr., 42, and Olga Lydia Inda, 30, into Whatcom County Jail Feb. 3 on suspicion of three counts of possession of narcotics with intent to deliver and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm, Chief Deputy Kevin Hester told The Bellingham Herald in an email.

Gonzalez and Inda were initially stopped by Lummi Nation Police officers, and deputies were called to assist with the investigation because neither Gonzalez nor Inda were tribal members.

The search of the vehicle revealed the loaded rifle, heroin, a half-ounce of methamphetamine, a small amount of cocaine, Hester reported. Items associated with the packaging and sale of narcotics and close to $5,000 cash also was reportedly found.

Gonzalez has previous felony convictions for assault and possession of a controlled substance from 2016, Whatcom County Superior Court records show, while Inda has previous felony convictions for theft and possession of a controlled substance from between 2011 and 2014.
