Man stabbed while walking in downtown Bellingham alley by man he didn’t know

A man reportedly was stabbed by a Bellingham man he did not know early Wednesday while the victim was walking through an alley in downtown.

Bellingham police booked Daytin Robert Duronso-Harp, 20, into Whatcom County Jail Thursday, Jan. 30, on suspicion of second-degree assault and a Department of Correction retainer.

Officers were called at approximately 1:43 a.m. Wednesday to the 1000 block of North State Street after the victim reported he had been stabbed by a man he did not know, according to information provided to The Bellingham Herald by Lt. Claudia Murphy. Officers noted the victim had a stab wound to his right shoulder, but it was not a life-threatening injury.

The victim told police that he encountered the man, later identified as Duronso-Harp, in a nearby alley, and Duronso-Harp became confrontational and said something about “shanking” the victim, Murphy reported. Duronso Harp then reportedly stabbed the victim and ran away southbound on State Street.

Officers watched camera footage from a nearby building and identified Duronso-Harp, Murphy reported. They then created a line-up, and the victim identified Duronso-Harp as the man who stabbed him.

On Thursday, officers were notified that Duronso-Harp was in the 800 block of Lakeway Drive and located him sitting in a parked car, where they were able to arrest him, Murphy reported.
