Blaine woman arrested after 10-year-old old girl arrives at school with bloody nose
A 10-year-old girl showed up at a Blaine elementary school with a bloody nose and blood on her face, and police report they believe she was slapped in the face by a 39-year-old woman she knew.
Blaine police booked Jessica Lea Spencer into Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of third-degree assault of a child, and jail records show she is being held without bail.
The school’s resource officer was notified at approximately 9:10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, after the girl arrived at school with blood on her face, according to information provided to The Bellingham Herald in an email from Sgt. Michael Munden.
Police interviewed the girl, who reportedly said she was slapped in the face by Spencer, causing her nose to bleed. Munden reported that officers saw no other injuries.
Officers spoke to Spencer, who denied striking the girl intentionally, Munden reported, but another witness appeared to disagree.
