Why was a helicopter hovering over Meridian in north Bellingham Tuesday afternoon?
One person was sent to the hospital with facial injuries, and Bellingham police are still searching for their assailant in an attack that occurred Tuesday afternoon in the Meridian neighborhood.
Police did not have a suspect description as of Tuesday evening, Lt. Claudia Murphy told The Bellingham Herald.
Emergency radio broadcasts of the attack began shortly before 1 p.m. Jan. 7, and Murphy said officers were called to the 4200 block of Tull Road for the reports of a felony assault.
Omaha, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s helicopter, was used to assist officers in locating other potential victims in the heavily wooded area where the assault took place, Murphy said. The helicopter also provided aerial support to officers in an effort to spot where the suspect may have been hiding.
No suspect or additional victims were located, Murphy said.
