Bellingham man tries to run away after chase reaches dead end, but K-9 tracks him down

A Bellingham man already suspected of driving a stolen a vehicle before running out of gas last week reportedly led Whatcom County law enforcement on a chase after he was spotted driving another stolen truck Friday evening.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office booked Aaron Nash Jackson, 47, into Whatcom County Jail on a number of different warrants and charges out of Bellingham, Lummi and Lynden on suspicion of third-degree theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, second- and third-degree possession of stolen property, obstructing a police officer, attempting to elude a police vehicle, driving while license suspended and a controlled substance violation.

Jail records show he is being held in lieu of $15,000 bail.

A Ford truck was reported missing to the Bellingham Police on Friday evening, according to information provided to The Bellingham Herald by Chief Deputy Kevin Hester, and the Lynden Police Department later spotted it in their jurisdiction.

When officers attempted to stop the truck, Jackson led them on a short pursuit across Birch Bay Lynden Road and up Stein Road, Hester said. Whatcom County Sheriff’s deputies soon joined in the chase, until the truck was forced to stop at the dead end of Stein Road.

Jackson, who was the only person in the truck, fled and Whatcom Sheriff’s K-9 Jag tracked and located him hiding in the nearby woods, Hester said.

Hester said other stolen items were found in the truck, which has been returned to its owner.

Jackson also is suspected of driving another stolen car last week in the 1300 block of Marine Drive until it ran out of gas, Hester said. Jackson reportedly left the stolen car, which also had numerous stolen items, stole a package off a nearby porch and walked away.
