Man cited for allegedly leaving scene after he hit man, dog in Bellingham parking lot
A man was cited for a hit and run after he allegedly drove off after hitting a man and his dog while they were walking through a parking lot.
The man did not sustain any injuries, police said, but the dog died, according to the owner’s Facebook page.
John Joseph Brady, 52, was cited for hit and run (attended), a gross misdemeanor, on Friday, Dec. 20.
Shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Bellingham police were called to the 3200 block of Northwest Avenue for the report of a hit and run. The victim and witnesses said the victim and his dog were walking across a parking lot entrance where Brady and his vehicle were stopped, according to Bellingham Police Lt. Claudia Murphy.
When the victim and his dog got halfway across, Brady’s truck accelerated and hit the victim and his dog, Murphy said. The impact was slow speed, Murphy said.
The dog yelped in pain as the pair were struck by the truck. Murphy said she was unaware of injuries the dog sustained.
Brady drove off in his truck. Ferndale police later stopped the truck and identified Brady as the driver, Murphy said.
Brady admitted to hitting the victim and his dog, Murphy said.
