Safe Kids Fair offers fire engines, police cars, and a helicopter

See what it’s like inside a fire engine, a medevac helicopter, escape from a simulated burning house and get tips and information about safety at the free Whatcom County Safe Kids Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 11, in a parking lot at the Barkley Village Cinema 16.

You’ll see an Airlift Northwest helicopter; the Fire Safety House; pumpers, aerial ladder trucks and ambulances from Bellingham Fire and North Whatcom Fire and Rescue; along with police vehicles and other emergency-response equipment. You’ll find information about riding the bus, water safety, first aid, disaster preparedness, and how to install child safety seats properly in your car.

It’s sponsored by Safe Kids Whatcom County, which is part of an international organization dedicated to reducing childhood death and injury from trauma. Info: safekids.org, Safe Kids Whatcom County page on Facebook.

Robert Mittendorf is a volunteer firefighter with south Whatcom Fire Authority and will be volunteering at the Safe Kids event.
