A new area code will be coming to Western Washington next year.
The 564 code, to begin in the fall of 2017, will overlap the 360, 206, 253 and 425 area codes as numbers in those areas become exhausted. If you already have a number with a 360 area code, you won’t be assigned a new area code.
Mandatory 10-digit dialing also will kick in for all western Washington area codes by the fall of 2017, according to a news release from the Utilities and Transportation Commission. This means callers will have to dial all 10 digits of a telephone number, including area code, even when making local calls.
The 360 area code is expected to run out of numbers by early 2018, according to the UTC.
