A 66-year-old woman who became pinned underneath her garage door was found dead Thursday morning, May 19.
The woman’s sister found her pinned underneath the door at the woman’s home along 32nd Street, said Lt. Bob Vander Yacht, a Bellingham Police Department spokesman. The sister called 911 just after 9 a.m.
Police did not immediately release the woman’s name.
An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, May 20, said Gary Goldfogel, Whatcom County medical examiner.
All indications are that the death was an accident, Vander Yacht said.
The single garage door was a for a two-car garage, Vander Yacht said, adding it was not clear how the door fell on the woman. He didn’t know if the door was manual or had an electric opener.
