Filing week starts May 16 for key Whatcom political seats

Candidates will file for a variety of local, state and national offices next week, May 16 through May 20, for the 2016 election season.

Some of the offices up for election include:

▪ 1st and 2nd Congressional District seats (each covers a portion of Whatcom County), currently held by Rep. Suzan DelBene and Rep. Rick Larsen.

▪  40th Legislative District (covers parts of Whatcom County) state Senate seat held by Sen. Kevin Ranker, and state House seats held by Rep. Kris Lytton and Rep. Jeff Morris.

▪ 42nd Legislative District (covers most of Whatcom County) state House seats held by Rep. Luanne VanWerven and Rep. Vincent Buys.

▪ All four Whatcom County Superior Court judge positions.

A full list of open offices, information on how to file (including filing fees for each office), and a list of who has filed will be available at whatcomcounty.us/auditor.
