“Rising Ashes: The Hans J. Massaquoi Story”

The Blaine High School advanced theater arts students present the docu-musical “Rising Ashes: The Hans J. Massaquoi Story” featuring Nathan Smith, Washington State Musical Male Soloist of the Year, in the true story of how Massaquoi grew up being mixed race African-German during Hitler’s Nazi regime and survived the Holocaust, at 7 p.m. May 5 and 6 at the school’s Performing Arts Center, 975 H St.

Ticket sales support the school’s theater arts program.

Boaters Boogie

The Community Boating Center hosts a fundraiser from 6 to 10:30 p.m. Friday, May 6, at the Squalicum Boathouse, 2600 N. Harbor Loop Drive.

The event features gutter races, salmon sliders, craft brews and music by Jasmine Greene. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Blue Skies for Children Annual Casino Night

Blue Skies for Children hosts mock casino gaming, appetizers, no-host bar and a raffled dash from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, May 6, at Northwood Hall, 3420 Northwest Ave.

Friends of the Deming Library Spring Plant Sale

Friends of the Deming Library host the annual sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 6-7 at the library, 5044 Mount Baker Highway.

Proceeds benefit library programs and building maintenance.

Trinkets & Treasures Craft and Flea Market

Ferndale Band Boosters hosts the sixth annual benefit for the high school band and color guard from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at Ferndale High School gym, 5830 Golden Eagle Drive, with craft and food vendors, a bake sale, food, a garage sale and a mattress sale.

25th Annual Master Gardener Plant Sale

Whatcom County Master Gardener Volunteers host their biggest fundraiser of the year from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at Hovander Homestead Park, 5299 Nielsen Ave., Ferndale.

Visit the Hovander Demonstration Gardens, the plant clinic and participate in mini-workshops. Food, nursery vendors, and educational displays, mushroom compost and rain barrels, too.

Sale proceeds support the WSU Whatcom Master Gardener Educational Volunteer Program. Details: 360-778-5800.

Ferndale Public Library Plant & Book Sale

Friends of the Ferndale Library presents its annual Spring Plant & Book Sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at the library, 2125 Main St.

Locally grown and donated plants of all types from outdoor shrubs and flowers to house plants to berry plants to hanging baskets, plus yard art and outside decor bric-a-brac. Proceeds go to Ferndale Library reading programs.

Annual Plant Sale - Sudden Valley Garden Club

Sudden Valley Garden Club hosts its annual sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May, 7, at the Dance Barn, 8 Barn View Road (gate 2), with perennials, annuals, succulents, herbs and deer resistant, and lots of Coco Coir potting soil.

Women Sharing Hope is a nonprofit group of Whatcom County women who have banded together in our devotion to raising money for local women and children. The annual Silent Auction and Champagne Luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at Semiahmoo Golf & Country Club, 8720 Semiahmoo Parkway in Blaine.
