A new hotel is opening but in a place familiar to many local residents.

Tony Dhariwal is planning to open the Orca Inn Suites in the next week at 5370 Barrett Road, near Interstate 5 and the Smith Road overpass. The building has gone through significant remodeling and is currently going through the final inspections, he said.

The building was originally built in 1996 as a Best Western hotel called Voyager’s Landing, but it closed and was turned into an assisted living facility. Most recently, it was the Eagle Ridge Assisted Living facility.

The hotel will have 39 rooms as well as a fenced area for grill-outs. It will offer breakfast in its dining hall and also will have a laundry facility available for guests.

Dhariwal said he thinks the hotel will be a good fit for contract workers at the two oil refineries west of Ferndale, as well as Canadian travelers. He plans on offering room rates at par for Canadians.

Rooms will cost less than $100 a night; he’s working on the final pricing but is expecting the rate to be in the $70-$80 range.

Dhariwal also operates the Orca Inn, a hotel/apartment hybrid that opened last year at 4071 Home Road, off Northwest Avenue.

Reservations at Orca Inn Suites can be made on websites like Booking.com and Expedia. For further information, call 360-255-3374.
