Southbound lanes of Interstate 5 will be closed at the Birch Bay-Lynden Road overpass for several hours early Friday, April 15, according to the state Department of Transportation.
Crews repairing the damaged bridge will close the southbound lanes from midnight Thursday night until 5 a.m. Friday.
Drivers can avoid the closure simply by taking the exit at the bridge and getting back on the freeway using the on-ramp. The detour will be marked.
The repairs come nearly a year after an excavator being hauled on a flatbed truck on southbound I-5 struck two of the bridge’s girders.
